What is the difference between the top-down and bottom-up dynamic programming methods?

The former is usually implemented using recursion, while the latter one is iterative.

In the former, we start with an original problem and break it down into smaller ones. In the second one, we immediately start solving smaller subproblem and move on to bigger ones.

The former is usually easier to implement and is thus more often used.

In the former, we don't need to use memoization, while in the latter one it is required.
