What you'll learn

This course covers the essential theory of algorithms and data structures. It allows you to see how various real-life algorithms work and to implement them yourself with Python. You will learn to perform a basic time complexity analysis and choose the most efficient algorithm. What’s even more important, you will enhance your algorithmic thinking, which is a crucial skill for programmers and developers.

 

While progressing through this course, you will:

  • implement and compare classic data structures: arrays, stacks, and queues;
  • practice several searching and sorting algorithms (bubble sort, merge sort, and insertion sort);
  • find out more about hashing and hash functions;
  • work with weighted graphs and trees and try several graph algorithms, such as Prim's algorithm and Kruskal's algorithm;
  • implement your own PageRank algorithm, the famous ranking algorithm created by Google;
  • learn more about Python functions sort() and find() under the hood.
 

Having completed this course, you will have a better understanding of how real algorithms work. That might be useful both for job interviews and for making your own programs run smoothly.

I learned how to work with command-line arguments, walk through directories with os.walk, filter files by extension, group files by size, and use MD5 hashes to identify duplicates more accurately. I also practiced validating user input and safely deleting selected files.

I feel like there are a lot of unneeded topics and not enough of the really needed ones. But overall, the projects are pretty good and I enjoyed this track
