Rolloo: an AI role-play trainer built in a few weeks

The business case is hard to ignore. According to Harris Poll Research (2024), poor communication costs U.S. businesses $1.2 trillion a year. 86% of employees and executives cite lack of effective collaboration as the main cause of workplace failures (Staffbase, 2025), and 63% of employees who consider leaving their jobs point to poor internal communication as a contributing factor (Staffbase, 2025). The market for solutions is large: courses, workshops, coaching programs, but most of them stop at theory. You learn the framework, then figure out the real conversation on your own, in a real meeting, with real consequences.

Rolloo is a platform where professionals practice difficult workplace conversations with AI characters before they happen in real life. You pick a scenario — a performance review, a sales call, a conflict with a colleague — have the conversation in chat or voice, and receive structured feedback tied to specific communication competencies. Your progress is tracked over time across a personal skill dashboard.

What the product does

4 things, done well:

  1. Choose a scenario — from a pre-built library or generate a custom one based on your role, context, and the skills you want to work on
  2. Have a live conversation with an AI character that behaves the way real people do in difficult situations — pushing back, going quiet, escalating — depending on the scenario
  3. Get a detailed assessment after each session: what worked, what didn't, and which competencies need more practice
  4. Track your progress over time in a personal skill dashboard, so learning is measurable rather than assumed.

Rolloo under the hood

Nuxt 3 handles both the frontend and backend in a single repository, which means no separate service to deploy or maintain. Supabase provides authentication, a PostgreSQL database with real-time subscriptions, and row-level security enforced at the database level — no custom auth logic and no middleware for access control. The Vercel AI SDK handles streaming responses and switching between AI models without rebuilding the integration each time. ElevenLabs generates realistic voice for Pro-tier conversations. Stripe manages subscription billing. Vercel Analytics, combined with 35 custom-instrumented events, tracks the complete user journey from signup to session completion.

The actual engineering work was in the product logic

The infrastructure handled itself. The real decisions were about how to make AI agents realistic, what makes feedback useful rather than generic, how to build a competency model that maps to recognizable workplace skills, and how to design a case generation pipeline flexible enough for organizations to create their own scenarios on top of the platform. That's where most of the time went.

A full SaaS product shipped in weeks

Rolloo has authentication, subscription tiers, voice capabilities, a competency tracking dashboard, a custom scenario builder and a polished interface built in a few weeks. This is what becomes possible when you understand the ecosystem deeply enough to know what not to build from scratch, and have the product sense to focus on what is needed to be built.

At Hyperskill, we're genuinely excited about what's happening in agentic layer right now as practitioners and educators. Our team builds with these technologies, stays close to what's emerging and teaches from direct experience. Rolloo is one example of what that looks like in practice: a SaaS product built by our employees, shipped in a few weeks, using the same skills and technical foundation we develop and teach in our courses.
